After long time...

Hi

It's July 3rd today. My day was spent in gruh pravesh (housewarming) ceremony conducted at a friend's place.

I came home in the evening and went for a nap. I couldn't sleep though. Why? I don't really know!!!

But I made good of that time and I saw a movie - King's Speech. It's a hollywood classic of current decade starring Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush. Geoffrey Rush is a veteran Australian actor although not so famous in Indian subcontinent, I believe. His best and most famous portrayal is of Barbossa in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. The funny, psychic semi-villian on the PoC series plays a very witty and unique character in this film.

Colin Firth, to me, is best recognized as Darcy from Bridget Jone's Diary. I don't remember seeing any other movie of this guy. And if I remember correct then Hugh Grant took the limelight away from him in that one too!!!

Anyways, coming back to the King's Speech. Colin Firth is probably destined to play simple, straight forward, nerds throughout his life and I can't think of a better suitor for this story.

The story is very bold and it makes you respect the society that accepts a story like that. It's about King George the 6th, his ascension to the throne durning the time of 2nd world war and most importantly his stammering, his struggle to overcome a life long weakness. Can you imagine a king who can't speak a simple line without shivering? Well, the story writer did. And if you believe him, this guy was so afraid of speaking that he was ready to renounce his throne.

Since the story is of real life events and one can't take too many liberties with the story, you need to appreciate the atmosphere created in the movie. I thought I could feel the pain and struggle of the man.

I am not going too much into the story as it is easily available online, in fact you can download the whole movie from utorrent and watch it yourself.

So, coming back to my day.

Afte the movie I had my dinner and then a gapshap with a friend. Topic of the gapshap was our development activites mainly.

Just to give you update, we have formed a group called 'Sunday Forum'. The idea behind this group was to develop and provide a readymade platform for everyone to develop themselves as a person and a professional. All of us, 3 founder members, are very keen to develop the art of training. Besides me we have Priyka Kedia who is a professor & business woman and Jayant Arrawatia, with whom I was doing my gapshap, who is working with a NGO.

Jayant and Priyanka both are already attending various institues to give lectures. They both know the pulse of education system today and vigorously trying to improve that. So, in comes our group again.

One of the prime objective of The Sunday Forum is to create various training & teaching techniques and presentations. We will also conduct work shops for various professionals, students and teachers. It's a long way from here but this is what we are aspiring to achieve.

We have kept a provision of outdoor meetings and learning as well which we will do once a month. In this event, we will either learn something new about our city or gather somewhere outside & brainstorm.

I have already written good enough on our first outdoor meeting on facebook and I am going to upload a presentation also as soon as I get complete photographs.

Anyways, this pretty much sums up my day today. It's 10:32 PM now and I need to go to sleep :)

Tomorrow is my parent's 31st wedding anniversary and we haven't plan anything yet. So, tomorrow is going to be another great and hectic day for me!!!

Looking forward to writing again........good night and good bye :)

Tara Rani ki Kahani

God narrates the importance of Karma in Bhagwad Geeta saying only thing one should focus on is ones Karma. The Fal or result of any karma is beyond your reach. Hindu religion puts great emphasis on karma and it's consequences. Naturally, many of our stories revolve around similar concept. No other story however is as complex as the one told to me during Mata Ki Chauki organized at my aunt's house in March 2015.  Let me present to you this long story in hopes that it will entertain and intrigue you. Tara Rani Ki Kahani King Sparsh was childless after years of marriage. He conducted a Tapa "religious meditation" to appease Devi Mata with hopes of gaining a boon. Mata, eventually, was pleased and blessed that Sparsh shall father two daughters. Soon, his wife was pregnant and in due course gave birth to a beautiful girl. Good omens followed this child. Entire kingdom witnessed divine bliss and prosperity. King's Guru proclaimed that this girl is very lucky as she car...

Reading Grisham

Reading is a passion and a cultivated art. And, like any other craft, it demands lots of practice and persistence. I picked up this hobby probably from my “ Baba ” (paternal grandfather) while growing up. I remember he used to devour newspapers and novels. He was well versed with Hindi and Gujarati and possessed decent grasp of English. So, he read in all three. I remember reading a few of his novels back in my summer vacation as well. Thus began my affair with the written word. Coming from a Gujarati medium school of Ahmedabad, we were never encouraged to indulge extra-curricular reading and besides there was such an enormous pressure to read and re-read and again re-read the syllabus that only thing I read other than my school books were a few articles daily from the 'Gujarat Samachar'. During the college years, though, I was at liberty to explore books beyond prescribed course and exam syllabus. Not surprisingly, my favorite subject in college of English even thoug...

A Wednesday - Movie Review

Mumbai meri Jaan and Aamir - we have recently had two Bollywood movies dealing with the subject of Terrorism. Mumbai meri Jaan depicts the after effects of a terror incident. Its about real life characters absorbing the shock of bomb blasts and then recovering. The journey of their losses and more importantly - their gains. Aamir is a fiction about a man who is stuck in the mayhem of the terrorists. An idealist one - however, with a stodgy end. A Wednesday is, more than anything, a suprise for all the cinema lovers in India. The movie revolves around the similar subject but still it's greatly removed from the latter two movies. The attempt of a synopsis of this movie might give a lot away. Even the narrator, retiring commissioner of Police Mr Prakash Rathore (Anupam Kher) stays away, very smartly, from telling you the end. The story revolves around a fateful Wednesday between 1 to 6 pm, when a man, Naseeruddin Shah (at his intimidating best), calls up the commissioner and tells him...
